3s Back to Winning Ways!

Squad: Fran, Meghan, Kara, Briony, Dayna, Steph, Romilly, Helena (VC), Molly (C), Cynthia, Imme, Ronja, Sofia, Annie, Greta

The still leading 3rd team went to Glasgow for our 5th game of the season, against the Glasgow Caledonian 1st team.

Edinburgh started the game strong keeping most of the possession of the ball in the first quarter of the match. The first big chance came after 13 minutes, from Edinburgh’s Cynthia, with a shot just outside of Glasgow’s goal. This big chance spurred Edinburgh on, as their first goal came just two minutes after this. Our Vice-Captain, Helena, took the corner and found Captain molly in the box, who impressively half-volleyed the ball in the net. However, Glasgow hit back just seven minutes later, with an equalizer. With a score of 1-1 Edinburgh attempted to get their lead back. This chance came with a beautifully executed freekick from Helena not long after the equalizer, but sadly the ball hit the cross bar, bouncing out onto the field again. Just before half time Glasgow scored again against the flow of play, making the score 1-2 for the break.

The girls started off after halftime with eagerness and faith in themselves. This was shown in the way they played and eventually ended up paying off. After just ten minutes of the second half played, Edinburgh got their equalizer. A long ball from Meghan in defense reached all the way to Molly, who sprinted up to the Glasgow goalie. Molly with a good finish set the ball into the net, making the score 2-2. Not long after this, Edinburgh got another corner, and Helena was yet again ready to set up for another goal. This was exactly what she did, as the ball reached Imme, who did a great header(!!) into the corner of the goal. Edinburgh was back in the lead again, after quite the turn-over. With just ten minutes left of the game, Edinburgh kept the pressure on and created another chance through Romilly closely missing out on a goal. A dramatic final push for the match as Romilly went off injured following her goal attempt and Edinburgh played their last ten minutes with only ten players. This however did not weaken the team much, as they worked hard to keep the score to a winning 3-2 until the end of the game.

Edinburgh is therefore still the leading team of the league with 12 points after five matches played.

POTM: Imme
