Match Report 14/11

Edinburgh 2s vs Dundee 1s

SSS Cup

It was a windy Wednesday afternoon that saw Edinburgh 2s facing Dundee 1s in the SSS Cup. Edinburgh started the game well dominating possession with good link up play between defense and midfield, switching possession across the pitch. Dundee’s defense was strong in the back, stopping Edinburgh from getting an early lead. The first half an hour saw a couple of early chances for Edinburgh. Eva Steele had a shot on target saved by the keeper and winger Amy Gilroy had a good opportunity on goal but unfortunately put wide. The breakthrough for Edinburgh came at 36 minutes, ball played by Freya Wilson allowed striker Kirsty Wilson through on goal with a shot going under the keeper hitting the far-left post going in from a tight angle, 1-0. Edinburgh doubled their lead at 42 minutes with a great cross from bailey bender looping to the back post and Rachel Torrance sliding in to slot the ball home making it 2-0.

The 2nd half began with Edinburgh looking to keep the same intensity from the end of the first half. Multiple good crosses from Bailey Bender ends in some good chances for Edinburgh put none resulting in a goal, best effort hitting the cross bar with a headed effort from Kirsty Wilson. Edinburgh continue to press with effective link up play down the left wing between Jenna McDonald and Amy Gilroy. Edinburgh make 3 substitutions in quick succession to bring some fresh legs and lift the intensity further. A brilliant run from right-back Katie McCabe from box to box, ending with a square ball to Katie Kennedy in the box who slots it in the near post, makes it 3-0 at 75 minutes. Edinburgh continue to look comfortable in the game with the defense preventing any real threat on goal from Dundee. At 88 minutes a good run down the wing and cross into the box from Holly McConnell allows Katie Kennedy to double her tally with a low shot across goal into the bottom right corner, 4-0. A penalty shout for Edinburgh in the last seconds of the game as Dundee’s keeper collides with striker Kirsty Wilson but nothing given.

Overall very solid performance from Edinburgh coming away with a clean sheet, 4 goals and most importantly the win taking them through to the next round of the SSS Cup. Right back Katie McCabe voted as Player of the Match.
