Futsal 1st Team Battle Hard in BUCS Trophy Last 16

On Saturday 10th March Edinburgh women's futsal 1st team travelled down to Newcastle for the BUCS trophy last 16 knock out stage against Northumbria 2s. After the 'Beast from the East' prevented them from travelling down the week before the anticipated match kicked off at 12:30. Lead by Andrew Stavert from the University of Edinburgh futsal club, they were excited to put into practice some of the key futsal tips that had been learned and developed. From the off Edinburgh started well, with Macelod scoring an early goal straight off the back of a training session on set pieces. Northumbria manage to get one back for Thompson's strike to be parried over the bar shortly after. Northumbria attempt an overhead kick which keeper Parker-Smith blocks. Attempts from Durand-Watson and Wilson are both denied by great saves from the Northumbria keeper. But Edinburgh find the back of the net via Dryden's passage of play. At half time the score sat at 2 each. In the second half Northumbria come out raring to go and manage to get 2 on top. Gray tries to get one back but again top quality saves from the goalkeeper. Northumbria keep on battling and manage to sneak 2 more past. Final score was 6-4 with special mention to player of the match Hannah Dryden. Also, special recognition to both goalkeepers who had great performances and both stopped some brilliant shots. Although disappointed with the result, the 1st team strive to develop their futsal skills and look forward to competing in the PCU games in Antwerp later in April.
