2nd Team Play Well Despite Loss in BUCS Trophy
This BUCS Wednesday saw our 2s face off in the first leg of the BUCS Trophy against Leeds University 1st team. It was a freezing winter’s day for the 2nd team’s first match back after the Christmas break, but the girls remained positive despite the unfavourable weather conditions. The first 10 mins saw a lot of pressure from Leeds Uni, but the team stood their ground clearing any potential opportunities from their opposition. Despite this, Leeds scored their first goal 15 mins into the game due to an unfortunate miscommunication in our defensive line. After this, our 2s began to pick up the intensity and made some great phases of play which took their opposition by surprise a couple times, with one or two close chances at goal. This was reflected in the score line which remained 1-0 until the half time whistle. Two substitutions were made at half-time due to some minor injuries, allowing fresh legs to make a positive difference to the team dynamic. The second goal to Leeds came 10 mins into the 2nd half from a free-kick just outside the penalty box. The 2s continued to dig deep, playing some great football, but unfortunately it was not enough to influence the score line, with Leeds Uni scoring two more goals before the final whistle was blown. Overall, however, it was a positive start to the second half of the season, and valuable preparation for the 2s league match next Wednesday 7th against Glasgow Uni 1st team at home.
