Futsal League Round-up

Saturday 18th November saw a continuation of the Scottish 1A League fixtures, this time taking place at new venue Perth College (UHI). Our 1st and 2nd teams were both in action, with the former playing two fixtures and the latter just one.

1st team:

Squad:

C Parker-Smith (GK)

G Wilson

S Thompson

M Durand-Watson

H Michie

R Gray

R Thomson

The first game for the 1s was against Dundee 1s. It was comfortable win but not without threat from Dundee, who had some dangerous players on the break. Edinburgh lead at half-time, the score 4-0. The second half saw more well-worked goals from many players. Dundee pulled one back with a good strike low into the bottom right corner. The Dundee goalkeeper limited the scoreline, making some fantastic one-on-one saves throughout the game.

FT: 8-1 win for Edinburgh 1s

Scorers: Durand-Watson (2), Wilson (2), Gray (2), Thomson (2), Michie

The second game for the 1s was against Stirling 2s. Edinburgh went into the game confident after a good win in the previous game against Dundee. The 1s played with composure especially at the back and had dangerous players going forward. It took only 2 minutes for Durand-Watson to open the scoring, with a driven shot into the net. Thereafter Edinburgh dominated, taking a few more goals. Stirling 2s grabbed one back after a one-on-one was finished off. Half-time score was 6-1 to Edinburgh. The second half saw another quick goal by Durand-Watson, before a few mistakes at the back cost Stirling 2s some more goals. A really pleasing and dominant performance with many scorers for Edinburgh finished the game with a fantastic goal difference.

FT: 15-1 win for Edinburgh 1s

Scorers: Durand-Watson (6), Wilson (6), Thomson (2), Gray

2nd team:

Squad:

K Grant (GK)

A Gilroy

N Williams

M Simmons

K Kennedy

E Steele

K Wilson

Only one game for the 2s, against Stirling 2s. The game started off well, with Steele getting a goal within the first few minutes. Edinburgh managed to score early goals and kill off the game, with quick strikes in succession by Gilroy and Williams. A few mistakes at the back gifted some goals to Edinburgh. The defence was strong and did not let much past to threaten Grant in the Edinburgh goal. Some great worked goals and good technical ability was on show and the scoreline was well deserved

FT: Edinburgh 2s win 9-1

Scorers: Steele (2), Wilson (2), Simmons (2), Williams, Gilroy, Kennedy.

A great day of futsal in Perth and some fantastic goals. The futsal teams look forward to the next set of fixtures taking place on 27th January 2018 at West Lothian College, Livingston.

The girls also extend their thanks to Paul McLaughlin and Andrew Stavert of the University of Edinburgh Futsal Club, who came along and coached both teams on the day. Their advice and guidance was much appreciated!
