1s in Narrow Loss at Home
On Wednesday the 1s played host to St. Andrews in their penultimate league game before the Christmas break. The game started off with chances at both sides but in the 3rd minute St Andrews were first to get a goal. A well organised corner for St Andrews with good movement allowed for them to break the dead lock. In the 15th minute EUWAFC equalled the goal tally to make it 1-1. Stanton shielding the ball well in the box from a corner resulted in a penalty kick, which Macleod calmly slotted home. Macleod then created a chance in the 30th minute with a great dribble but the shot went wide. The last 15 of the half saw a tough midfield battle with Patrick, Reynolds and Maraghe all making essential tackles and creating some great chances.
HT Score: 1-1
At half time Edinburgh made two changes, Gray and Thompson came off for Durand-Watson and Boeckh. Durand-Watson made an immediate impact with a great shot from a difficult angle which was caught well by the keeper. It was in the 60th minute that St Andrews got their second, with another corner leading to the goal. After the St Andrews goal Edinburgh retained most of the possession and managed to create a lot of chances. Maraghe hit the post with a great hit and a couple of great free kicks were delivered in by Stanton. Unfortunately the last half hour of pressure was not enough and St Andrews left with a victory.
FT Score: 1-2
Man of the match: Beth Macleod
