Match Report: 2nd Team Disappointed but Upbeat after 4-2 Defeat
Wednesday 26th October saw the 2nd team travel away to play Glasgow University as they continued their Division 1 league campaign.
Both teams started the game well and very few chances were conceded in the opening 15 minutes. Glasgow's experience at this level soon showed however and after about 30 mins, the 2s found themselves 2-0 down from 2 long distance shots. However they then set themselves the target of bringing one back before half time and did so through a great goal from Jodie Ovens, assisted by Captain Sarah Thompson. This made the score 2-1 going into the break and meant there was still all to play for in the second half.
Edinburgh also started the 2nd half well however conceded early on from another long range shot which goalkeeper Helena was unfortunate not to save. 3-1 down but still the heads didn't drop and Edinburgh went on to make it 3-2 after a close range finish from Eva Steele went in. The 2s fought brilliantly right to the end of the game however just 5 minutes from the end, Glasgow managed to score again, leaving the final score at 4-2 to the home team.
Despite what the score line suggests, the 2nd team played fantastically and looked quite capable of beating Glasgow at times. They can take many positives from this performance going forwards and will look to improve on it when they welcome Stirling 1s to Peffermill next week. Man of the Match went to winger Jodie Ovens who had a great game on the wing, causing the defence all kinds of problems and scoring a great goal.
