1st Team in Convincing Away Win

Wednesday saw EUWAFC 1s travel to Glasgow to take on Glasgow University 1s at Garscube Sports Complex. Edinburgh hoped to emulate their performance against the same team from the first day of the season, where they were 3-1 winners at Peffermill.

The game started off quick, with both teams aiming to get out of the blocks and place pressure on the other. Glasgow had most of the possession to start off with and switched the ball well, but could not find a shot at the Edinburgh goal. Edinburgh looked dangerous on the attack, with defenders Rebecca Gray and Rachel Thomson looking to drive forward on right and left respectively. After 14 minutes, Edinburgh was given a great opportunity when a Glasgow defender fouled in the box and the referee blowing for a penalty. Beth Macleod stepped up and placed the ball high into the top corner to put the visitors in the lead. Little over 5 minutes later and Macleod doubled the lead after a great bit of play by Sophie Boeckh. Edinburgh gained confidence and dominated for much of the rest of the half. Glasgow had a few opportunities to pull one back but for a save by Edinburgh goalkeeper Charlotte Parker-Smith. The high intensity paid off as Edinburgh got their third, with Margaux Durand-Watson slotting home to make it 3-0.

Half time: Glasgow 0-3 EUWAFC 1s

The second half saw a slower tempo to the game. Glasgow looked dangerous with the ball in wide areas, but the Edinburgh defence managed to clear away any threat. Edinburgh continued to threaten with pace ahead in the form of Eleanor Patrick and Margaux Durand-Watson.

Full time: Glasgow 0-3 EUWAFC 1s

Overall a confident performance from the league leaders, who will be hoping for another good result against EUWAFC 2s next Wednesday at Peffermill (kick off 5pm). It was also great to see 1s defender Jane Marshall make her return to competitive football after an ankle injury which had her sidelined for months.

Bottom row, left to right: Margot Maraghe, Rachel Thomson, Katie Macdonald, Lucy Stanton (C), Margaux Durand-Watson, Cecilia Bosman.
