2nd Team Battle Hard Against Strong 1st Team

This week EUWAFC 1s took on our own 2nd team in the second fixture of the Scottish 1A League. Played on Peffermill 3G, the game was a great showcase of new talent at the club. The first half was evenly matched, with the 2nd team starting strongly and quickly. There were chances at either end, with two good chances for 2s striker Kirsty Wilson but with one hitting the side netting and the other straight at 1s goalkeeper Charlotte Parker-Smith. It was all to play for at half time at 0-0.

The second half saw much of the same desire and commitment from both teams as they battled it out for the first goal of the game. There were chances at both ends but nothing clear-cut early on. It took all of 77 minutes before the 1st Team were able to break down the 2s, when Beth Macleod cut the ball back to Eleanor Patrick who slotted home from close range. The 2nd team did not give up however and fought right to the end. In the 89th minute Beth Macleod sealed the win for the 1s with a great goal coming in from the left flank. The game finished 2-0 to the 1st Team who will be happy to have claimed all 3 points where the result could well have finished in a draw. A massive credit must go to the 2nd team who put in a great deal of effort and challenged one of the best teams in the league.

Man of the match for the 1st Team went to Katie Macdonald, whilst the 2nd Team man of the match was awarded to Rachel Thomson.
