Match Report: 1s Beat 2s in Closely Fought Game

Wednesday 5th October marked the first ever time a first team has played a second team in the 1st Division. The 2nd team came into this game off the back of a heavy loss to Stirling 1s last week and looked to prove themselves battling against their fellow students and close friends. The game started at an extremely high tempo with both teams working and pressing extremely hard. 10 minutes in and the 1s found themselves 0-1 up with a fantastic strike from Katie Cleland. Then just 10 minutes later, Margaux Durand-Watson made it 0-2 after latching onto a fantastic through ball from Courtney Mcavoy, to slot it into the bottom left hand corner. The 2nd team played well however and remained tight at the back even after conceding, managing to keep the score 0-2 at half-time. They kept up the tempo into the second half and made life very difficult for a strong Edinburgh 1s team, whilst also creating their own chances. The game stayed at 0-2 until the 80th minute when Katie Cleland grabbed her 2nd of the game to make it 0-3 at the final whistle. The 1st team will take the 3 points moving forwards as they continue their title defence and the 2nd team will go into their game against Robert Gordon University next week filled with confidence after a fantastic performance. The 2nd team Man of the Match was Katie Macdonald and the 1st team Man of the Match, as chosen by the 2nd team, went to Jane Marshall.
