After a close game drawing 2-2 against Glasgow 1s, only a few weeks ago at Peffermill, it was time for Edinburgh 2’s to travel away to Glasgow for the second game.
The first half started evenly as expected, with both teams starting strong. However, Glasgow grabbed the opening goal after being awarded a free kick just outside the box. Shortly after, Philine Rouwers grabbed her first goal for EUWAFC after a great run up the line and impressive finish from a difficult angle. The half time whistle blew, and it was 1-1.
Going into the second half Edinburgh were determined to start well but it was Glasgow who managed to score early on after a corner was delivered to the back post and slotted in the goal. Edinburgh stayed positive and the whole squad continued to defend well as Glasgow pushed up the pitch. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough, and they were able to find the back of the net another twice. Despite this, Edinburgh did not give up and continued to take their chances and challenging the Glasgow defence. A beautiful cross from Philine Rouwers landed at the feet of Meghan Gauld resulting in a great strike and other goal for Edinburgh. The game ended 4-2 to Glasgow. Although the score line was disappointing there were many positives to take away and continue to build on.
