Tough Loss for 1’s Away at Loughborough

After a strong second-half comeback against Leeds and gaining their first point in the BUCS Northern Premier League, Edinburgh traveled to Loughborough hoping to build off that momentum. Cold and rainy conditions dampened the grass pitch as the two teams met for the second time this season. Edinburgh generated a few good chances, especially in the first five minutes, as top-scorer Jennifer Brown narrowly missed a 50/50 ball with the Loughborough keeper. Scoring held out until the 25th minute when a ball sliced through Edinburgh’s defensive line onto the left foot of a Loughborough forward, who then calmly put their first one away. Loughborough kept up the pressure, and just two minutes later, scored their second goal. Now a 2-0 game, Edinburgh dug deep, fighting to get one back in the remaining minutes of the first half. At the 36th minute, a freekick was awarded to Edinburgh ten yards out on the left-hand side of the 18 yard box. Krissy Williams’s freekick soared over Loughborough’s wall to hit the crossbar, and a switched-on Jennifer Brown collected the rebound to put away her fifth goal of the season. Following the break at half time, Loughborough came out the stronger team, eventually putting away five more goals and keeping Edinburgh scoreless. Three EUWAFC 2’s members were called up for this match and made their debut in the BUCS Northern Premier League: Isabelle Limberger, Niamh Page, and Philine Rouwers. Additionally, Edinburgh welcomed back goalkeeper Kelli Sontag-Hanman after recovering from an injury. In her first game back as a fieldplayer, Hannah Dryden earned POTM showing undeniable will and determination, both offensively and defensively.
