On Wednesday 24thOctober, EUWAFC’s 2ndteam brought Glasgow University 1’s to our home field at Peffermill. After having a tough defeat the previous week away in Aberdeen, the team were keen to get straight into the game and grab a victory. However, the team also knew that this would be a challenging game.

The game kicked off and our defence stayed strong, not allowing Glasgow to get many shots at goal. This was until the 19thminute in which a Glasgow player took a powerful strike at goal, but our number one, Fran, managed to pull off a superb save that caused the ball to go behind for a corner. Despite the strong defence, the Glasgow side managed to break through the defence and slot the ball into the back of our net to make the score 1-0 to Glasgow by the 27thminute. Two minutes later, Glasgow managed to get another goal to make them lead by two goals. The 2s later received a great opportunity at the 42ndminute to get a goal when Bailey hit an awesome shot that just manages to go over the bar. A minute later, Kirsty dribbled past one of Glasgow’s defenders and hit a great shot but unfortunately the Glasgow keeper managed to prevent it from going into the back of the net.

At half-time the score was 2-0 to Glasgow, but the girls were not ready to stop fighting. During the 55thminute our coach, Derek, decided to change the formation from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2 and make two subs. Katie K. and Tess came off the park and Sophie and Holly came onto the park. Fran, yet again, make another fantastic save at the 77thminute but Glasgow managed to get to the rebound and scored a goal to make the score 3-0 to Glasgow. Minutes later, Megan Gower took on the Glasgow defenders and managed to find Sophie’s feet who made a brilliant strike and scores a goal. This made the score 3-1 to Glasgow.

FULL TIME: Edinburgh 2s 1 – 3 Glasgow 1s

The 2s are now preparing to face Glasgow 1s next week away from home and we hope to take the 3 points back off them.
