Match Report: 1s in Home Win over Stirling

Wednesday evening saw the 1st team play at home under the lights of the Stadium Pitch at Peffermill against Stirling 1s. The game started off with both teams threatening, but neither breaking the deadlock.

Stirling threatened with a free kick which was tipped over the bar by Charlotte Parker-Smith in the Edinburgh goal, while the home side looked dangerous with Colette Cavanagh, Beth Macleod and Katie Cleland leading the attack. There was a good crowd supporting both sides, and the first half finished 0-0. All to play for in the second half!

The second half saw Kirsty Howat replace Katie Cleland, and the debutant made an immediate impact. Edinburgh were often dangerous and quick on the counter attack, with the midfield switching play well. The home side managed then to break through, with a fantastic run and shot by Howat deflected heavily into the Stirling net. This regenerated motivation in Edinburgh to continue attacking and try and get another goal. Meanwhile there were a number of chances for Stirling at the other end, but with nothing materialising.

Edinburgh doubled their lead with another Howat strike, this time into the roof of the net. With not long to go, Edinburgh remained a force in defence, but also proving to be difficult to deal with at the other end with Beth Macleod and Kirsty Howat continuing to make runs down the wings.

Final score: Edinburgh 1s 2-0 Stirling 1s

A closely and hard fought match between sides both with great quality, but a good win for Edinburgh as they continue to defend their Scottish 1A League title!

Man of the match: a tie, between Beth Macleod and Kirsty Howat
