The 1s travelled to the Fife town on Wednesday in a late 7pm kick off to take on a reformed St Andrews 1s from the friendly win a couple of weeks ago.
Edinburgh started off strongly, dominating possession and passing well. St Andrews proved in the first few minutes they were a force to be reckoned with, breaking very quickly and showing a physical side to their game.
There were chances at both ends of the park with Beth Macleod having a number of shots at wide angles, and St Andrews coming close at the other side. But it was Edinburgh who broke through, with a stunning strike by Katie Cleland from 25 yards which hit the top corner of the net.
This regenerated Edinburgh who took motivation from the goal and kept the pressure on until half time.
The start of the second half saw chances again for both sides, with St Andrews winning some free kicks and putting the ball in dangerous areas. Meanwhile there was a stellar performance by captain Courtney Mcavoy in the midfield, who was instrumental to switching play and creating chances.
Edinburgh doubled their lead with a clever run by Beth Macleod and a dangerous low ball which was turned in by Margaux Durand-Watson.
This made the game more comfortable for Edinburgh, but the play continued to be competitive and St Andrews came very close to getting one back when a one-on-one chance was brilliantly cleared off the line by defender Lucy Stanton.
Edinburgh then got another as Macleod made a run down the left wing before playing another dangerous low ball which was unwillingly turned in by a St Andrews defender. This completed a hatrick of assists for Macleod, and a comfortable scoreline in the end.
It was a competitive match with chances at both ends and a great game for the neutral, but overall an important 3 points and clean sheet for Edinburgh to take back to the capital.
